Gbajimba, Benue State – In a significant stride towards educational advancement, McMatthy Nigeria Limited officially handed over a cutting-edge Model Classroom Block (MCB) to the Benue State Government on October 18, 2021. The handover was marked by a virtual ceremony on Zoom, attended by key figures including Benue State's Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom, and representatives from various project stakeholders.
The newly commissioned facility at Government Science and Technical College, Gbajimba, is a testament to modern educational infrastructure. It includes a comprehensive suite of facilities such as biology, chemistry, physics, and fine arts labs, a library, an ICT lab brimming with advanced technology, and a medical bay, all tailored to provide an enriched learning environment.
Governor Ortom, during the event, expressed his deep appreciation to the project's partners - Chevron Nigeria Limited, Famfa Oil, Prime, NNPC, and Equinor - for their role in this educational upliftment. He highlighted the critical nature of project completion, stating, "It's not just about starting a project; it's about seeing it through to commissioning." He further lauded McMatthy Nigeria Limited for their exemplary execution, commending the high-standard construction and furnishing he had personally inspected.
The ceremony also heard from Mr. Richard Onovi, the Principal of the college, who underscored the facility's potential impact. He thanked Governor Ortom and the partners for their foresight, emphasizing how the new infrastructure would empower students, equipping them with skills for self-reliance and community development.
Engr. Ebikebina Igodo, the project engineer who has been on-site since the project's initiation two years ago, shared his relief and joy at seeing the project's completion amidst doubts of its realization. On behalf of McMatthy's MD/CEO, Mr. Matthew Sele-epri, he thanked the Governor for his support and urged the school's management to preserve the facility's integrity. He also motivated the students to utilize the new resources to become future leaders in technology and entrepreneurship, contributing to the nation's growth.
