As part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) to our host, Etegwe community, McMatthy Nigeria Ltd engaged in the construction of a trench in order mitigate the flooding situation experienced by residents of the community. The community, some months ago, was overtaken by water due to the rise in sea level coupled with lack of drainage system to channel the water.
The Managing Director, Mr. Matthew Sele-epri during the commencement of the project stated that flooding is a natural occurrence but can be controlled when proper drainage systems are created. He further said "the basic issue with flooding is run off, the moment we can increase the run off, we can reduce the flood challenges. We hope that the Government can draw example from this rather than paying excavators to excavate year in and year out to desilt the canals". The project will help reduce the impact of flooding in this section of this community.
